is now in history!

About
VINYL TANGO FEVER is a first-of-its-kind event - a small and cosy tango marathon with music played entritely from vinyl records. You have probably read or heard some people saying that analog music (that is, music form vinyl records) sounds warmer, more authentic, more relaxed or even more magical than the one from CDs and laptops. Or you may have even been to one of those rare milongas at which the DJ used vinyl records and had the impression that the tangos sounded somewhat deeper and warmer making you feel different while dancing...
Well, there is an ongoing debate about which is the better source of music - the vinyl record or the CD/audio file but we do not want to participate and take side in this discussion. No doubt, there is something sexy and cool about vinyls and vinyl DJs and the clubbing scene has acknowledged that a long time ago. Now vinyl records and those who spin them are becoming more visible in the tango world as well, although they are still considered an exotic rarity at marathons and festivals. But, finally, there is a tango event where the vinyls and the tango turnatblists take center stage!
VINYL TANGO FEVER will allow you to check first hand the virtues of the vinyl records and find out for yourself whether the myth about the effect of analog music on dancers is true! This event also pays tribute to the DJs who do not accept sound compromises, carrying around suitcases full of records (some even travel with their own turntables!) and meticulously pin down the needle on each and every track during the entire milonga.
So, come over to Corrientes in Basel and experience the magic of "tango en vinilo" - we'll be happy to welcome you and have a party!
Here is the practical information you need to know:
Please, note that for safety reasons the organizers will not allow more than 140 participants at each milonga! Everyone who wants to secure a place at the event is strongly advised to register and buy a full pass well in advance.
-
VINYL TANGO FEVER will consist of 4 official milonga sessions and one afterparty.
-
A full pass for all 4 official vinyl milongas costs 55 CHF and is available only in advance sale upon registration. The organizers will try to maintain a balance between followers and leaders selling a maximum of 50 full passes for each group (which is a total of 100 full passes).
-
No food is included in the full pass.
-
A limited amount of "on the spot" entrances (20 for leaders and 20 for followers) will be available at the door for each individual milonga at 15 CHF. Of course, if there are any full passes left unsold, the places for these will be added.
-
Entrance to the afterparty on Sunday night will cost 10 CHF and is not included in the full pass.

Meet our vinyl DJs
We have invited some of the best tango turntablists around to keep you dancing through the weekend:

Jens-Ingo
Brodesser
Brussels
Chances are you’ve already heard Jens-Ingo DJing at one of the many marathons and encuentros in Europe, so no need to tell you how great and expressive his sets are! A meticulous audiophile and a passionate collector and researcher of tango music, he has a humongous vinyl and shellac collection, impressive knowledge of the history of tango and a super busy DJ schedule (actually, we’re absolutely lucky he managed to squeeze us in). His music selection combined with the analog sounds from his vinyls is rumoured to have had a magical effect on many a dancers. So, be prepared to get spellbound - it's going to be an exciting Friday night!

Damián
Boggio
Buenos Aires
With an unmistakeably recognizable style, marked by his long experience as a DJ, and the quality of his vinyl collection, Damián is one of the most wanted and beloved tango DJs around. He started to DJ in 1999 learning and getting inspiration from the legendary milongueros and DJs of Buenos Aires. Since then he’s been DJ-ing at all landmark milongas in Buenos Aires and major tango festivals around the world, traveling with his vinyls and his own tardemark vintage record player - very traditional, very inspiring, very awesome! Perfect for a Saturday night!

Anders
Båtstrand
Oslo
Each of his vinyl sets during the laptop dominated tango marathons in Europe is a huge success which is no surprise, considering his respect for the dancers and great personal taste for music. “My heart is in the fourties”, says Anders, "and most of all with Troilo, Di Sarli, D'Arienzo and Pugliese. The music must move me, and then it can hopefully move the dancers. A clear vision within each tanda, variation between the tandas, and all of them fitted together in the greater plan for the evening... This is what I enjoy the most as a dancer, and what I strive to provide when I am DJing." He certainly does provide this and we look forward to an uplifting Saturday afternoon with him!

Matias
De Valentin Alsina
Paris
A DJ, a dancer, a music lover and a chef, this argentinean living in Paris is a man of many passions. When he is not wearing his cooking apron, dancing tango or spending time with his family, Matias becomes MDVA, spinning his vinyls with gusto in a milonga or a night club somewhere in France. Vinyls are his chosen path of spreading his love for tango music. When he is behind the turntables he becomes a real pleasure sharer - sharing with others the pleasure of dancing to what he describes as "la mejor musica de todos los tiempos". What a fabulous way to close the official program of our event on Sunday!

The location and around

HOW TO GET HERE
The Vinyl Tango Fever will take place in Corrientes and Caminito - two spaces, which are part of Gundeldinger Feld, a former machine factory now turned into an area of artistic workshops, dance studios and offices, located on 192 Dornacherstrasse in Basel, Switzerland.
To get there:
(1) from Bahnhof SBB train station: walk to the marathon or take tram 16 for two stops to "Tellplatz".
(2) from Badischer Bahnhof train station: take direct bus 36 and get off at "Bruderholzstrasse".
(3) from EuroAirport (Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg): take direct bus 50 to Bahnhof SBB, then follow (1).
WHERE TO STAY
If you need a place to sleep, we suggest the following budget accommodation around the event location (all within less than 10-minutes walking distance):
- BaselBackPack (mention "tango marathon" to get a discount)
By the way, sometimes you may get an even better deal if you book one of those hotels via an online booking system (like Booking.com or Hotels.com) and you may want to check airbnb.com as well for cheap rooms/apartments in Basel, but you have probably already thought about it.
And here is an insider tip if you don't mind some commuting: You may be able to find cheaper accommodation across the Swiss-French border in Saint-Louis (a small French town adjacent to Basel). There are public buses (No's 604 and 607) that travel between the center of Basel (Schifflände) and Saint-Louis for 15 min. You need another 20 min. to reach Schifflände from the marathon venue (tramstop "Tellpltaz") with tram No 16.

A WORD ABOUT FOOD
On Saturday and Sunday we will have a on-site brunch buffet at noon and an Argentinean food bar in the evening where you will be able to purchase different snacks, sandwiches, salads and soups.
In addition, the Gundeldinger Feld complex boasts a number of conceptual cafes and restaurants where you will find tasty food featuring organic and vegan options as well. And if you want to check the neigbourhood you will find out that the event is located in a lively multicultural area of Basel where there are plenty of other places to eat, catering for different budgets and food preferences.
There are also a number of big and well stocked supermarkets on the nearby Güterstrasse (the street that leads to the train station) where you can find inexpensive snacks and ready-to-eat food.
